The EU could “act quickly and firmly” in response to what it calls “unjustified” travel bans issued by the US against five Europeans working on fighting digital hatred and misinformation, an EU official has said.

European Leaders Decry US Action as ‘Coercion’

Officials from Europe such as Emmanuel Macron charged the US administration of “bullying and threats”, after the visa restrictions were placed on figures who have been at the heart of efforts to introduce legislation regulating American tech companies.

“For far too long, European activists have led organised efforts to pressure American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “This government will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
